16:31 Truth is always stranger than fiction [General]

Whatever that means...Everyone should tune in to watch MTV's True Life "I'm Moving Home to Live with My Parents" on 6/16. 10:30 ET. I'm sure it's going to be a bloodbath with kids breaking curfew, parents weeping, and everyone talking about how the whole thing just sucks. Hopefully, they'll put a few brave boomerangers who actually have the guts to go on television and admit to liking their parents. But somehow, I doubt it.

On a side note: I am officially leaving on vacation for Italy for two weeks and will not be updating my blog (as if I update it that much anyway). So rest assured, you will get your monthly update as soon as I get back. The one thing I worry about is that now that I'm leaving, an actual television show will want to feature me and the book. For those of you who hadn't heard me complain about it: I was almost booked on 3 shows. That's right, Good Morning America, 20/20, and Fox and Friends were all clamoring for me. Well, not really clamoring. It wasn't anyone's fault, though (maybe the pope for taking up all that coverage). Off to the Vatican. Ciao!!

06:12 AS IF! [General]

For the five people actually reading my blog, I apologize for not posting sooner. I am settling into my deep post-partum book funk, which requires that I get 5 hours of undisturbed TV watching. But that's not helping, either. There's simply nothing to watch and I've got other work that's keeping me busy. Yes, the post-partum book depression is a little-talked about phenomenon that writers often go through. You hatch the idea. Then there's the excited, fervent selling of it. Then the less excited sleepless nights writing it. And then the big coming out party, where you spend at least one month trolling around bookstores moving your book copies to the front of the store and doing radio interviews. So that's where I am. All in all, I can say I'm satisified. We've gotten some nice press, and so on and so on. But here's what bothered me most: I really had no idea people would be so critical of boomerangers. I am so sick of people asking, "So what's wrong with this generation?" "Why are they so lazy?" All that righteous mumbo-jumbo about how "I had to scrape by on 10 dollars a month, clipping coupons and eating noodles and look at me now BS." Anyway, I think I did a pretty bang up job of defending the posse, but still, I'm a little annnoyed at some of the articles that came out, blaming the poor boomerangers for bad behavior and irresponsibility. Not mentioning any names here, but if you check out some of the articles in the PRESS section, you'll know what I mean. Anyway, next month I'm off for a much-needed trip to Italy to clear the decks, brush up on my English, and get fresh inspiration for next tomb of wisdom. So when people ask you, "Why you're still living at home?", just look at them funny for about a minute, don't say anything, and back away slowly. People hate it when you do that.
